Always remember your focus determines your reality. – George Lucas

There are so many things that catch our attention when we sit at our desks to study. Let’s take a look around. All kinds of devices surround me, including computers, cell phones, game consoles, and TVs. I think this modern convenience is a significant cause of my distraction. Let’s look at the environment where I can’t concentrate.

Multitasking human

These days, IT technology is rapidly advancing and producing high-performance computers. We perform various tasks with computers, and high-performance computers provide higher work efficiency. The central processing unit (CPU), random access memory (RAM), solid-state drive (SSO), and graphic card specifications have become essential factors in selecting a computer. Having worked in the IT field, I have long thought that multitasking is indispensable in business processing. When you turn on your computer, you open a planner that manages your day’s work, Excel, PowerPoint, Word Processor, Internet Search Window, and Messenger Program. I don’t have time to focus on one place. A lot of things are waiting for me.

On top of that, you can open dozens of windows, such as phone calls, YouTube, calculators, and exchange rate calculators on your cell phone. I believe that I am a person who handles it efficiently. In addition, I thought dealing with things unexpected things at the same time without problems was a good skill. I have always believed that multitasking people are great people.

In everyday life, it is common to watch TV on Facebook, check Internet articles while talking, listen to music while studying, follow on social media, and check if anything new has been uploaded. I have thought that it is a way to entirely use our abilities and time. All kinds of devices and media constantly tempt us to multitask.

However, according to Stanford University researchers, humans are not good at multitasking. Scientists say that multitasking is impossible for humans. Our brains are designed to be unable to multitask. Is that true? It said the behavior of consuming multiple digital information at the same time negatively affects concentration, memory, and workability. Even extreme multitasking is similar to neuroscientifically addictive conditions in the brain. It’s shocking.

So, if you can’t concentrate when trying to study, check if you’re a multitasking person. Then, Remove the elements that tempt multitasking that interfere with concentration before starting to learn.

1. Organize your desk first. Put your cell phone on mute and turn off the SNS alarm. Then, put your cell phone away from where you can’t reach it.
2. Make a list of things to do, letting go of your desire to do many things all at once. Prioritize your studies and handle them meticulously, one at a time.
3. Maintain a cycle of concentration and relaxation for a long time to concentrate. You can also use apps that support it.

Background processing job

Computers have tasks that run background. A background process refers to a computer process that runs without user input. It means that the computer is working hard as long as it is on.

Like a background processing job on a computer, we’re busy with thoughts even if we’re not doing anything. I have to sit at my desk and concentrate on my studies, but many thoughts come and go. “What shall we have for lunch today?” Why did he say that? Does he hate me? I wonder if she got home safe. What if there’s a traffic jam on my way home? What can I say if I’m late?” A lot of thoughts keep coming up regardless of my will. It drains my energy and makes me tired before I start studying.

Meditation and jogging

Meditation and jogging are excellent to get rid of useless thoughts. Walking without carrying your cell phone and wallet calms and relaxes your mind and body. When you come back from jogging, you have the strength to see things again from a different perspective.

When I first started meditating ten years ago, my meditation teacher asked me to reflect on my life. However, as soon as I closed my eyes, I couldn’t concentrate because many clutter thoughts came to mind. It was not until I closed my eyes that I realized how many useless thoughts I usually had. Those thoughts controlled me, and my mind wandered around. It wasn’t easy, but I threw away these delusional thoughts through repeated meditation. I threw away my mind like old files and unused files from the computer. After the unnecessary background jobs disappeared, I felt my memory aligned in the proper space. All the mind clutter disappears. So, I can make it ten times more effective whatever I do. I get positive outcomes with a clean mind. Now I’m a person who studies when I study, eats when I eat and sleeps when I sleep. Concentration became my middle name. I hope it helps you. Thank you for reading it through🌷
