How do you get motivation when you feel low and lazy?

By meditating, I emptied my mind. I threw away thoughts and emotions from my mind. Thanks to this practice, my mind has become much more spacious. I have much less resistance in me now. I can still feel lazy, but it is now much easier for me to just look at my to-do list and start working on something. It doesn’t take long until I have forgotten how tired or heavy I felt. And by the end of the day...

Hi there,

My advice for you is to try out meditation.

I used to feel very heavy and lazy. It was difficult to do anything; I procrastinated and postponed things that were not urgent or absolutely necessary. This made my life difficult because I’m operating a business, where you have be proactive, think new, work long-term, and do tedious things like marketing, administration, follow-ups, etc.

The reason it was so difficult for me to do things, was that my mind was full of thoughts. There were just no space or capacity to do anything. Every time I had to do something, it was like moving through molasses. There was so much resistance in me. On top of that, I was easily distracted and always had to check my phone, go to the fridge and eat something, take a walk or a stroll around the house, etc. Almost every night, I went to bed feeling unfulfilled and unhappy with myself.

And by the end of the day, I feel like I have actually accomplished something.

I read some other people’s responses to your question. Some of them recommend you to just push through. It’s true that it takes will power and that we to some degree have to force ourselves do do it. Nothing comes for free, and effort will be needed in order to make progress. However, the resistance within will be so much less if our mind is free from useless thoughts and distractions. So, I think it’s important to start working on the mind.

These days, when distracting thoughts or the urge to check my phone or do something else pops up in my mind, I just let it go with the meditation technique that I’ve learnt. My mind then becomes clearer and it is easy to go back to the task at hand.

I should also add that it gets easier and easier with time. In the beginning it was still hard not to fall for the temptation of being lazy, but the more I’ve meditated the less effort is needed to stick to what I’m doing.

So, my recommendation for you is meditation. I would say that after six months to a year of regular practice, you will have achieved significant results. It’s possible to meditate on your own, but if you want to save yourself time and frustration, go and find a meditation center which can provide you with a personal guide.

The video below describes how meditation can help us to stop being lazy. Take a minute and check it out.

Best of luck!
